Both on a mission together in the beginning of the story, soon a huge tragedy takes place separating the two newly married and finally able to spend their life together. Still look forward to reading The Ransom though.Ī continuing story takes place in "The Reliance" by MaryLu Tyndall where we last left Charlisse & Captain Merrick. She has the ability to connect you so well with the characters, no wonder I feel so disappointed with captain Merrick in The Reliance. The resolution in the end never disappoints. She makes the story come alive so vividly, you feel like you're right there with the characters! Sometimes the suspense is unbearably long and the issue should have been resolved five chapters ago, but you're too caught up with the story and action to skip. I must admit that Mary Lu is an exceptional writer.

I grew to love captain Merrick along with lady Charlisse in The Redemption, but in this sequel he came across as a fickle personality without very strong convictions, who didn't even have the decency to mourn his wife (the wife he supposedly loved more than his own life) for a full month before basically falling in love with another woman! He appeared unreliable, untrustworthy and ever ready to return to his old ways at the drop of a hat, even in his relationship with God! Reminds me too much of Ivanhoe who was torn between his love for lady Rowena and the Jewish lady, Rebecca. I believe that Mary Lu unintentionally assassinated captain Merrick's good character in this book, The Reliance, and that spoiled the whole experience for me. I never even thought that I could love pirate romance/adventures! The Legacy of the Kings' Pirates could easily be my best fictional book series so far but for what I consider a great blunder. I don't recall ever writing a book review before this, and trust me, I read plenty.
