And if he couldn’t find one, then this series should have been extended. There should have been a way for Shusterman to have these events happen without constantly jumping forward in the plot. However, the timeline kept skipping forward years at a time, which wasn’t sitting right with me. In this book, the series finally started to feel more like a dystopia than a utopia, which certainly made it more interesting and grabbed my attention.
Those expectations quickly turned around, so I felt a need to express my opinions on this book. However, as I read The Toll, at the beginning, I had high expectations that this book could turn it around, as it was finally starting to feel like a dystopia. The writing was okay, the characterization was okay, and I’m not a big fan of the romance. As I read the first two Scythe books, my thoughts were so neutral that I didn’t expect to be making reviews for any of the books in the trilogy.
